The cheeses of the Savoie
Cheese is the heart of Savoyard cuisine. The region is the cradle of Reblochon, alongside Tomme de Savoie, Abondance and Beaufort. In Thônes and at the farms along the mountain passes you see how the cheese is made and taste it, preferably right away.
Tartiflette: the mountain classic
The most famous dish is tartiflette: a gratin of potato, bacon, onion and a whole Reblochon laid melting over the whole thing. It is comfort food at its best and found in virtually every mountain restaurant.
Fondue and raclette
Fondue savoyarde — melted cheese into which you dip pieces of bread — and raclette are also inextricably linked to the region. They are convivial, shared meals that fit perfectly with an evening with the whole family in the chalet.
